INTRODUCTION

This Service Pack compact disc (CD) contains the standard Windows NT® Service Pack and updates to Windows NT features and products that ship with Windows NT 4.0.

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 is easy to install, and it updates only those files that were originally set up on the Windows NT Workstation or Windows NT Server operating system. Service Pack releases are cumulative; they contain all previous fixes, as well as any new fixes made to the operating system.

It is very important that you read the release notes before installing Windows NT Service Pack 4. The release notes contain instructions for installing this Service Pack as well as important usage information, including how to obtain new or updated device drivers as they become available.

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 contains several Year 2000 fixes for the Windows NT 4.0 operating system. Before choosing this installation method, carefully read the Year 2000 section of the release notes.
It is recommended that you use the following installation program to update your Windows NT 4.0 operating system:

This installation method automatically updates your Windows NT 4.0 operating system components to resolve known Year 2000 issues.


Microsoft Windows NT Server NetShow Services

Microsoft® Windows NT® Server NetShow™ Services is located on this CD in the \NetShow directory. Windows NT Server NetShow Services enables Internet service providers (ISPs) and organizations to deliver the highest-quality audio and video at every bandwidth across the Internet or enterprise networks. Simplified setup, configuration, and administration of NetShow server components and tools give ISPs a reliable and cost-effective platform for hosting large amounts of content.

Microsoft Windows Media Player

Microsoft® Windows® Media Player replaces Microsoft® ActiveMovie as well as the Microsoft NetShow™ Player. Windows Media Player has all the features found in both of the other multimedia players, plus many more. It also upgrades existing Windows Media Player and Microsoft ActiveMovie support to provide convenient access to new Windows Media content. Windows Media Player supports most local and streamed multimedia file types including WAV, AVI, QuickTime, RealAudio 4.0 and RealVideo 4.0. The new player takes over the class IDs of the previous players. After you install the new player, programs that used the old class IDs will function as usual.

The latest version of Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1 is located on this CD in the \msie401 directory. Run ie4setup.exe or click the appropriate link to install this version of Internet Explorer.

Microsoft® Web Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) is an industry-wide initiative to develop a standardized technology for accessing management information in enterprise environments. The purpose of this initiative is to help companies lower their total cost of ownership (TCO). Numerous companies are participating in the WBEM initiative, including BMC Software, Cisco Systems, Compaq Computer, Intel, and Microsoft.

Microsoft Site Server Express

You can use Microsoft® Site Server Express Analysis features to collect and analyze Microsoft® Internet Information Services (IIS) log files from a single server. Predefined reports provide insight into the users and organizations that interact with your site and the types of requests they make. By extracting this information, you can identify trends and gain valuable data for making more informed Internet business decisions.

Note: you must have previously installed Windows NT Option Pack before installing Site Server Express.

Microsoft Data Access Components 2.0 Service Pack 1

Microsoft® Data Access Components are key technologies that enable Universal Data Access. They include ActiveX® Data Objects (ADO), Remote Data Service (RDS, formerly known as Advanced Data Connector or ADC), OLE DB, and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC). This update resolves known Year 2000 issues in the Microsoft Data Access core services.
