More than 300,000 people suffering from respiratory ailments - arriving in
cars, special trains, and Indian Airlines charter flights - converged on the
Bathini family home in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad recently to receive a 150-year-old home asthma remedy: herbs and water stuffed into a 2-inch-long Murrell fish, swallowed live. Patients say fish helps clear the food pipe as it makes its way to the stomach, where it releases its medicinal properties.
