Optimizing Windows NT Performance Tools 1. Overview This directory and its sub-directories contain the tools described in the book, "Optimizing Windows NT", by Russ Blake (Microsoft Press, 1993.) There are three subdirectories. The MEASTOOL directory contains a variety of useful measurement tools. The PROBE directory contains the Response Probe synthetic workload generator. The SRC directory contains the source for the Windows NT Performance Monitor. Each directory also contains another README.TXT file with further information on its contents. 2. Installation To install the tools onto your hard disk: A. Make the drive contaning this diskette or CD-ROM your current directory. B. Type: install and press the ENTER key. Normally you will get the executable images which are suitable for the processor you are using. In this case you will need somewhat under 2 MB of hard disk space. There is also an option to install executable images for all platforms (x86, MIPS, and Alpha), in which case you will need about 4 MB of hard disk space.
