When you use Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel to install a program, this automatically puts a terminal server in install mode. Note: If you install the server or client by running the package installation (for example, HIServer.msi, HIClient.msi, or HIAdmin.msi), this error message does not occur. CAUSE ===== This error message can occur under either one of the following circumstances: - On a new installation of Windows 2000, you select Application Server Mode, which defaults to execute mode during Terminal Services setup. - If you previously upgraded from Microsoft Windows Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition, Terminal Services will automatically be put into Application Server mode, execute mode. When you install HIS 2000 (or any application) on a computer that is running Windows 2000 with Terminal Server enabled, Terminal Server must be in global mode (also known as install mode) before you run Setup. On the Start menu, click Run, type "cmd" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK. 2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: "change user /install" (without the quotation marks) 3. Run Setup.exe again and complete the Host Integration Server 2000 installation. Method 2 -------- 1. Open the Add/Remove Programs application by double-clicking the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel or by clicking the link from the pop-up error message. 2. Click Add New Programs, and then click CD or Floppy. 3. Locate the Setup.exe file from the HIS 2000 CD, and then click Next. The Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 menu appears and you can continue with your installation. NOTE: To determine whether the server is in install mode or execute mode, type the following at a command prompt: "change user /query" (without the quotation marks) To return to execute mode, type the following at a command prompt: "change user /execute" (without the quotation marks) NOTE: When a server is restarted, it automatically defaults to execute mode.
