PRODUCT: HP Tru64 UNIX [R] 5.1A SOURCE: Hewlett-Packard Company ECO INFORMATION: ECO Name: T64KIT0020145-V51AB23-E-20031001 ECO Kit Approximate Size: 3.52MB Kit Applies To: HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1A PK5 (BL23) ECO Kit CHECKSUMS: /usr/bin/sum results: 49471 3600 /usr/bin/cksum results: 564119250 3686400 MD5 results: 2cfc53393a4eba6f79a704d8c4f3a75f SHA1 results: 99a444717db2372c45928085a47d3641b7a8a8e6 ECO KIT SUMMARY: A dupatch-based, Early Release Patch kit exists for HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1A that contains solutions to the following problem(s): This ERP for HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1A PK5 (BL23) provides fixes for the following three AdvFS issues: 1. HP Tru64 UNIX Possible Memory Corruption: Under certain circumstances, memory corruption can occur when a non-Tru64 UNIX NFS client attempts to increase the size of an AdvFS file. The problem usually appears as a kernel memory fault and corruption in multiple kernel memory buckets. A thread in the crash has the following stack trace segment: [...] 5 _OtsZero 6 fs_setattr [...] 2. HP Tru64 UNIX Errors with V5.1A Patch Kit 5: After installing Tru64 UNIX V5.1A PK5(BL23), errors may be received when executing multiple threads (tar/cp/vrestore/cat) simultaneously on an AdvFS domain with very large files (typically tens of gigabytes) while under heavy I/O load. These errors can appear as any of the following. - I/O errors - kernel memory faults when trying to access a subXtntMap which is null - ENO_MORE_MEMORY errors 3. Tru64 UNIX V5.1A PK5 Mandatory Patch for Potential Unexpected AdvFS Domain Behavior: In laboratory stress testing, HP has observed that under rare circumstances, an AdvFS domain may behave unexpectedly. The unexpected behavior could occur under the following circumstances: - The domain is full or near full - Heavy activity takes place adding and deleting data to files in the domain Potential unexpected behavior that could occur under these circumstances are: - A domain panic with the string, "dealloc_bits_page: can't clear a bit twice!" - A system panic with the string, "block offset not aligned on cluster boundary" - Possible data issues HP has corrected these three issues by providing the mandatory 5.1A PK5 (BL23) ERP kit T64KIT0020145-V51AB23-E-20031001. The Patch Kit Installation Instructions and the Patch Summary and Release Notes documents provide patch kit installation and removal instructions and a summary of each patch. Please read these documents prior to installing patches on your system. All three fixes contained in this ERP kit will also be available in the next mainstream patch kit - HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1A Patch Kit 6. INSTALLATION NOTES: 1) Install this kit with the dupatch utility that is included in the patch kit. You may need to baseline your system if you have manually changed system files on your system.
