ECO NUMBER: VAXMOUN01_072 PRODUCT: OpenVMS VAX OPERATING SYSTEM V7.2 UPDATE PRODUCT: OpenVMS VAX OPERATING SYSTEM V7.2 COVER LETTER 1 KIT NAME: VAXMOUNT01_072 2 KITS SUPERSEDED BY THIS KIT: None. 3 KIT DEPENDENCIES: 3.1 The following remedial kit(s), or later, must be installed BEFORE installation of this, or any required kit: VAXUPDATE01_072 3.2 In order to receive all the corrections listed in this kit, the following remedial kits, or later, should also be installed: VAXSYS_072 ,dependent kit]... o VAXSYS02_072 o VAXCLIU03_072 4 KIT DESCRIPTION: 4.1 Version(s) of OpenVMS to which this kit may be applied: OpenVMS VAX V7.2 4.2 Files patched or replaced: o [SYSLIB]MOUNTSHR.EXE (new image) o [SYSEXE]SYSINIT.EXE (new image) o [SYSEXE]VMOUNT.EXE (new image) o [SYSEXE]MOUNT.CLD (new file) -- COVER LETTER -- Page 2 5 February 2002 5 PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN VAXMOUNT01_072 KIT o A MOUNT command appears to successfully mount a shadow set that is in a "MountVerify Timeout" state, but in reality, no members are added and the set remains in the "MountVerify Timeout" state. Note that a device that is in "MountVerify Timeout" state must be dismounted before you can successfully re-mount the device. Images Affected: - [SYSLIB]MOUNTSHR.EXE - [SYSEXE]VMOUNT.EXE - [SYSEXE]MOUNT.CLD o Irregular errors have been reported from SYSINIT when trying to mount the system disk. These errors can result in system crashes. There have also been PROCGONE crashes. All crashes have been seen only during STARTUP. Images Affected: - [SYSEXE]SYSINIT.EXE o When a batch job issues a SPWAN/NOWAIT MOUNT command, the batch job can exit while the mount is in operator assist wait. The result is that the subprocess hangs in MOUNT in LEF, and the main process in RWAST waiting for the subprocess to exit Images Affected: - [SYSLIB]MOUNTSHR.EXE - [SYSEXE]MOUNT.CLD o Mounting bound volume sets, which are also shadow set members, can sometimes result in MOUNT-F-INCONSET and MOUNT-I-DOVOLSET errors. Images Affected: - [SYSLIB]MOUNTSHR.EXE ,le;[SYSEXE]VMOUNT.EXE - [SYSEXE]MOUNT.CLD o A check that compares the volume size, cluster factor and block count fails with a %MOUNT-F-FILESTRUCT error on CD-ROMs that were created from disks larger than the CD itself. -- COVER LETTER -- Page 3 5 February 2002 Images Affected: - [SYSLIB]MOUNTSHR.EXE - [SYSEXE]VMOUNT.EXE - [SYSEXE]MOUNT.CLD o A volume rebuild operation can ACCVIO when run against certain volumes. VERIFY shows no problems but the commands to rebuild consistently fail. This problem only occurs on volumes where the INDEXF.SYS file size exceeds the value for MAXFILES for the volume. Note: To receive this full fix you will also need to install the VAXCLIU03_072 ECO kit. Images Affected: - [SYSLIB]MOUNTSHR.EXE - [SYSEXE]MOUNT.CLD o The following problems are being corrected: o A MOUNT/NOWRITE command on a disk on one cluster will now work correctly even if the disk is mounted with a /WRITE qualifier on another cluster in the SAN (Storage Area Network). Previously, depending on the order in which the mounts were executed, the mount would fail with the error message: DIFVOLMNT - different volume already mounted on this device. o If a disk is mounted with a /WRITE qualifier on one cluster and a /NOWRITE qualifier on another cluster in the SAN, mount verification will fail with a WrongVolume status error on the system which had the disk mounted /NOWRITE. This change allows mount verification to complete successfully in this configuration. Note: To receive this full fix you will also need to install the VAXSYS02_072 ECO kit. Images Affected: - [SYSLIB]MOUNTSHR.EXE -- COVER LETTER -- Page 4 5 February 2002 - [SYSEXE]VMOUNT.EXE - [SYSEXE]MOUNT.CLD 6 KIT INSTALLATION RATING: The following kit installation rating, based upon current CLD information, is provided to serve as a guide to which customers should apply this remedial kit.
