TITLE: OpenVMS VMS62TO71_PCSI-V0200 VAX V6.2 and V7.1 PCSI ECO Summary KIT: DEC-VAXVMS-VMS62TO71_PCSI-V200--4 Modification Date: 03-MAY-2000 Modification Type: Updated Kit: Supersedes VMS62TO71_PCSI-V0100 NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. For OpenVMS savesets, the name of the compressed saveset file will be kit_name.a-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name.a-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the OpenVMS saveset is copied to your system, expand the compressed saveset by typing RUN kitname.dcx_vaxexe or kitname.dcx_alpexe. For PCSI files, once the PCSI file is copied to your system, rename the PCSI file to kitname.pcsi-dcx_axpexe, then it can be expanded by typing RUN kitname.pcsi-dcx_axpexe. The resultant file will be the PCSI installation file which can be used to install the ECO. Copyright (c) Compaq Computer Corporation 1998, 2000. All rights reserved. New Functionality Included in VMS62TO71_PCSI-V0200: o This remedial kit updates the POLYCENTER Software Installation utility of OpenVMS, including associated command procedures and help text. After installation, the POLYCENTER Software Installation facility will be functionally equivalent to that provided by OpenVMS V7.2. Changes include new PRODUCT commands and qualifiers, improved display of output from PRODUCT SHOW commands, features useful for product developers, and several corrections for problems that have been fixed since OpenVMS V7.2 was released. After installaton of this remedial kit your system will use the new features provided by this version of the POLYCENTER Software Installation utility. If a layered product is installed that makes use of this new functionality, then it may not be possible to revert back to an older version of the utility. This restriction occurs because there may be records in the software product database that the older version of the utility will not be able to interpret. This scenario may occur after an OpenVMS upgrade to a version of OpenVMS prior to V7.1-2. For example, this situation occurs if you: 1. Install this remedial kit on VMS V6.2 or V7.1 2. Install DWMOTIF V1.2-5 3. Upgrade to (or re-install) VMS V6.2 or V7.1 The upgrade to any of the versions listed in #3 above may fail (or other PRODUCT command operations on the product database may fail) with one of the following errors: %SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, ... or %PCSI-E-UNSDOCENC, unsupported product document encoding version To prevent these failures after installing this remedial kit and the DWMOTIF product (as in the example above), do the following: 1. Remove DWMOTIF using the command: $ PRODUCT REMOVE DWMOTIF 2. Upgrade to (or re-install) VMS V6.2 or V7.1 3. Re-install this remedial kit 4. Re-install DWMOTIF This workaround is not needed if you are upgrading to OpenVMS VAX V7.2. These releases already include the new features provided by this remedial kit to eliminate this issue.
