Cover Letter for ECO Kit # 001 for DECforms Version V2.1


Kit Description
-------------------

    This is an ECO update to the DECforms V2.1 product and can be applied 
    only to the DECforms V2.1 product on OpenVMS Alpha V6.1 or higher. 

    This kit will replace the following image:

     o  SYS$COMMON:[SYSLIB]FORMS$CIOSHR.EXE


Problem Description
-------------------

    The new DECforms V2.1 FORMS$CIOSHR image contains three form
    backward compatibility bug fixes.

     o	The first problem involves loading a form created using the 
 	Alpha DECforms V1.4(C/D) translator /NOMEMBER_ALIGNMENT switch.
	These old style form's records were treated as naturally aligned
	even though they had specified the /NOMEMBER_ALIGNMENT switch when 
	they were translated.  This corrects that problem.

     o	The second problem solved by this new image is also for a form 
	load problem that causes a hang condition due to an infinite loop.
	When multiple extracted form objects are linked into an image and 
	they had been extracted using an older version of DECforms prior 
	to DECforms V2.1 this problem may occur.  With this problem;
	If tracing was enabled the trace file would end at this message.
	    "Converting an old style form object to latest format".

     o	The third problem is with "Session Not Found" errors and possible
	PEU call argument errors resulting in a fatal exception.  These
	errors are a result of a form object conversion error where call
	argument alignment size calculations were performed incorrectly.
	This problem typically occurs on VAX but could occur using VESTed
	images on Alpha.

	The image ident for this image is FORMS V2.1-005, dated 15-Sep-1995.


Installation Overview
---------------------
              
    If ACMS is running on your system, you will have to shut it
    down before doing this installation and restart it and restart
    the ACMS application after installation so that the new
    FORMS$CIOSHR image will be used.

    The ECO kit can be installed with the VMSINSTAL command procedure,
    as outlined in Chapter 3 of the VMS System Manager's Manual.


Installing the DECforms ECO Kit
----------------------------------

1.  Verify that DECforms V2.1 is on the system:

      $ ANALYZE/IMAGE SYS$SHARE:FORMS$CIOSHR

       Image Identification Information

                image name: "FORMS$CIOSHR"
                image file identification: "FORMS V2.1-003"

2.  Install the DECforms ECO kit from the SYSTEM account:

      $ SET DEFAULT SYS$UPDATE
      $ @VMSINSTAL FORMSAECO01021 <kit_source_dir>:

3.  The system does not need to be rebooted.

4.  If you encounter any problems with this kit, contact your Digital
    Support Channel.
