ECO NUMBER: DECDFS03_022 ----------- PRODUCT: DECdfs for OpenVMS -------- UPDATED PRODUCT: DECdfs for OpenVMS 2.2 ---------------- APPRX BLCK SIZE: 25299 ---------------- DIGITAL Cover Letter for DECdfs for OpenVMS Systems, version 2.2-3 ECO Kit DECdfs03_022. ECO Kit DECdfs03_022 Description -------------------------------- DECdfs for OpenVMS System is a DECnet and DECnet/OSI layered product that provides OpenVMS users with the ability to use remote OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS AXP disks as if they were directly attached to the local OpenVMS system. DECdfs software provides users and applications with transparent, high performance file access while using fewer CPU resources than standard DECnet and DECnet/OSI file access. Systems running DECdfs software can act as "servers" or "clients" or both. DECdfs servers make file resources available to systems running DECdfs client software. DECdfs clients are able to use file resources of systems running DECdfs server software. The file resources accessible through DECdfs can range in scope from a master file directory and all of its subordinate directories and files on a disk volume, to an individual file. The DECdfs server software assigns a unique name to the resource to be shared. What's new in DECdfs for OpenVMS Systems, Version 2.2-3? DECdfs now supports OpenVMS V7.1 on Alpha and VAX hardware. The following problems have been resolved: o Occasional system crash on system closedown when used with DECnet/Plus V6.3-5 o DECdfs client process sometimes jams in RWAST state when DECnet reports errors on the link. DECdfs V2.2-3 supersedes V2.2-2 and addresses all the problems originally addressed in that release. These are as follows: o When you perform an operation on a file on a DECdfs device, the DECdfs server may crash unexpectedly with an UNXSIGNAL exception at DFSSDRIVER+01B5B (OpenVMS VAX only). o When you perform an operation on a file on a DECdfs device, the DECdfs server may crash unexpectedly with an SECURITY1 bugcheck at DFSSDRIVER_NPRO+3030 (OpenVMS Alpha only). o If you enable checksumming, the DECdfs client may crash during the checksum calculation with an INVEXCEPTN bugcheck at DFSRRDRIVER+1100 (OpenVMS Alpha only). o When multiple processes on a DECdfs client are accessing files on a DECdfs device, the processes may go into the LEF state if a DECnet error occurs on the connection between the DECdfs client and the DECdfs server. o On a system that is running both DECdfs and DECnet/OSI, DECdfs may appear to use all available DECnet connections because DECnet/OSI ignores requests from DECdfs to disconnect connections. Installation Overview --------------------- This kit is supplied as a self extracting ZIP file. To expand the kit into its VMSINSTAL savesets type the following at the DCL prompt: $ Run DECDFS03_022.TXT.ZIPEXE You can install this kit with the VMSINSTAL utility by logging into the SYSTEM account, and typing the following at the DCL prompt: @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL DECDFS03_022 [location of the saveset] The saveset location may be a tape drive, or a disk directory that contains the kit saveset. You MUST reboot your system when you have installed the kit. Copyright Digital Equipment Corporation 1997. All Rights reserved.
