ECO NUMBER: ALPCPU0D05_062 PRODUCT: OpenVMS Alpha OPERATING SYSTEM 6.2 UPDATE PRODUCT: OpenVMS Alpha OPERATING SYSTEM 6.2 COVER LETTER 1 KIT NAME: ALPCPU0D05_062 2 KITS SUPERSEDED BY THIS KIT: ALPCPU0D04_062 3 KIT DEPENDENCIES: 3.1 The following remedial kit(s) must be installed BEFORE installation of this, or any required kit: None. 3.2 In order to receive all the corrections listed in this kit, the following remedial kits should also be installed: ALPLAN05_062 - For RACORE and DE500-BA adapter support 4 KIT DESCRIPTION: 4.1 Version(s) of OpenVMS to which this kit may be applied: OpenVMS Alpha V6.2-1H3 4.2 Files patched or replaced: le;[SYS$LDR]SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_0D02.EXE (new image) o [SYS$LDR]SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_1102.EXE (new image) o [SYS$LDR]SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_0F05.EXE (new image) o [SYS$LDR]SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_1105.EXE (new image) le;[SYS$LDR]SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_1402.EXE (new image) 5 PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN ALPCPU0D05_062 KIT o The kit ALPCPU0D04_062 did not contain some images that were in its superseded kit ALPCPU0D03_062. The images are included in this kit and they are: SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_0D02.EXE -- COVER LETTER -- Page 2 28 October 1998 SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_0F05.EXE SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_1102.EXE SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_1402.EXE 6 PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN ALPCPU0D04_062 KIT o A backport for OpenVMS V6.2-1H3 was done to change some definitions to unsigned long so that the error log won't be passed over. Specifically, the error_time_threshold value was corrected since the threshold value was previously too large. 7 PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN ALPCPU0D03_062 KIT o Add support for the DE500-BA adapter and the Gigabit Ethernet adapter. o The RACORE (Token Ring) adapter was never supported in V6.2. The supported adapter, Thomas Conrad (Token Ring adapter) is being phased out so this new adapter must be supported. 8 PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN ALPCPU02_062 KIT o When a device driver uses IOC$NODE_FUNCTION to disable a device interrupt in the IRQ range 8 to 15, keyboard interrupts are also disabled. This problem is seen on systems with customer-written drivers. Because of the higher overhead of IOC$NODE_FUNCTION, the recommended way to disable interrupts is at the device itself. The part of the code affected is used by AlphaServer 1000 4/200, AlphaServer 400 4/233, EB64 and AlphaStation 600 5/266 platforms, but the problem has only been reported on Digital AlphaServer 1000 4/200 platforms. o If a device's EISA configuration utility CFG file requests two or more IRQs, the device can crash an EISA_based system. This problem can occur on Digital AlphaServer 2100 5/250, AlphaServer 8400 5/275, AlphaStation 600 5/266, Digital AlphaServer 1000 4/200 and DEC 2000-300 platforms. -- COVER LETTER -- Page 3 28 October 1998 9 PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN ALPCPU01_062 KIT FOR OPENVMS ALPHA V6.2 o On Alphastation 200, Alphastation 400 4/233, and Alphaserver 1000 4/200, about one out of every ten SET TIME commands will set the year or month incorrectly. It appears that the most common incorrect years are 2014 and 1758. 10 KIT INSTALLATION RATING: The following kit installation rating, based upon current CLD information, is provided to serve as a guide to which customers should apply this remedial kit. (Reference attached Disclaimer of Warranty and Limitation of Liability Statement) INSTALLATION RATING: INSTALL_2 : To be installed by all customers using the following feature(s): AlphaServer 1000 4/200, AlphaServer 400 4/233, AlphaStation 600 5/266 11 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Install this kit with the VMSINSTAL utility by logging into the SYSTEM account, and typing the following at the DCL prompt: @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL ALPCPU0D05_062 [location of the saveset] The saveset location may be a tape drive, or a disk directory that contains the kit saveset. The images in this kit will not take effect until the system is rebooted. If you have other nodes in your VMS cluster, they must also be rebooted in order to make use of the new image(s). If it is not possible or convenient to reboot the entire cluster at this time, a rolling re-boot may be performed. Copyright (c) Compaq Computer Corporation, 1998 All Rights Reserved.
