PROBLEM: (QAR 48496) (Patch ID: TCR141-003) ******** This fixes a problem that occurs on all AlphaServer 8200 systems and on AlphaServer 8400 systems having certain nonstandard configurations. When there is no CPU in slot 0, remote DRD I/O operations hang. These operations will always fail consistently; that is, this is not an intermitent problem. The following configurations are subject to the problem: - AlphaServer 8200 systems will always encounter the problem because these systems appear to physically start with slot 8; there is no slot 0. - AlphaServer 8400 systems that are not configured according to the configuration rules described in the hardware manuals will encounter this problem. The configuration rules for the AlphaServer 8400 state that the the first CPU should be placed in slot 0 and additional CPU modules should be inserted in sequentially increasing slots. Examples of misconfigured systems which could see the problem are those where there is no CPU in slot 0 or in those having gaps or empty slots between CPU modules. The problem is fixed by never binding the DRD threads to a specific processor.
