HP Services Software Patches - alpdebu03_061

NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.

Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will
be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
can be used to install the ECO.

the following remedial kits also need to be installed:

                 None

ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for DEBUG on OpenVMS Alpha V6.1. This kit
addresses the following problems:

Problems Addressed in the ALPDEBU03_061 Kit:

o There are no new problem fixes in this kit. The kit is being
re-issued as a single version kit. If you have installed the
ALPDEBU01_071 remedial kit, you do not need to install the
     ALPDEBU03_061 kit.

Problems Addressed in the ALPDEBU01_071 Kit for OpenVMS ALPHA V6.1,
V6.1-1H1, V6.1-1H2

o Build the debugger against Motif V1.2-3 and provide workarounds
in the debugger for bugs which are currently fixed in Motif V1.2-4.

Problems Addressed in the ALPDEBU06_070 Kit for OpenVMS ALPHA V6.1,
V6.1-1H1, V6.1-1H2

o HELP file was not included in the ALPDEBU05_070 ECO kit.

Problems Addressed in the ALPDEBU05_070 Kit for OpenVMS ALPHA V6.1,
V6.1-1H1, V6.1-1H2

o Arrow is present, but occluded by breakpoint toggle buttons. It
appears that Motif[R] is not properly resizing the source annotation
form when new child objects (toggles) are initiated, thus, instead
of positioning the new objects to the right of existing ones
(i.e. the arrow), they are falling on top of them.

o In this old version, arrow scaling by font metrics is not
implemented. Arrow size is therefore hardcoded.

o Using the kept debugger and the gui, opening the source browser
at any point and then executing the RERUN command causes an
     ACCVIO.

Problems Addressed in the ALPDEBU02_070 Kit for OpenVMS ALPHA V6.1,
V6.1-1H1, V6.1-1H2

o On startup, DEBUG occasionally fails with an ACCVIO on some Alpha
     programs.

Problems Addressed in the ALPDEBU01_070 Kit for OpenVMS ALPHA V6.1,
V6.1-1H1, V6.1-1H2

o Record File Address (RFA) tables were sometimes not being properly
updated. The conditional that helped determine when to update was
depending on a variable that it assumed was static, but was,
     instead, changing dynamically.

Problems Addressed in the AXPDEBU02_061 Kit

o A STEP/RETURN debugger command takes a long time to complete when
using the current OpenVMS Alpha debugger. The amount of time
depends on the type of system being used and on the type of code in
the module. A STEP/RETURN from a small routine with a loop of many
iterations (e.g., 100000) could take over 40 minutes to complete!

The current debugger's pagefile usage is dramatically worse. In
particular, this was observed in poor debugger command execution
times with "DECLARE x: ADDRESS" and "SHOW SYM" commands. The larger
the application the worse the debugger pagefile usage and
performance. On large applications, the debugger could consume all
     of the available pages.

Problems Addressed in the AXPDEBU01_061 Kit

o When a breakpoint is set in the source code being debugged, the
debugger may not stop at the set break point.

o Severe performance degradation occurs on the first use of "SET MODULE"
     or "SET SCOPE module_name".

INSTALLATION NOTES:

The system does not need to be rebooted after this kit is installed.
However, if you have other nodes in your OpenVMS VMScluster, they should
be rebooted or you should install this kit on each system in order to
make use of the new image(s).
