dtimsstart(1)
NAME
dtimsstart - Brings up a dialog box where the user can change the input
method and the input styles of the current input method
SYNOPSIS
/usr/dt/bin/dtimsstart
DESCRIPTION
The dtimsstart command displays the Input Method Options dialog box which
lets the user:
· Change the input method
· Change the input styles that are supported by the current input method
An Input Method application lets the user enter Asian (multibyte)
characters such as Japanese Kanji or Chinese Hanzi.
In many input methods the user can type multiple keystrokes to compose a
single character (or set of characters). The process of composing
characters from keystrokes is called pre-editing. The user selects a pre-
editing method by clicking on one of the radio buttons under Style
Preference in the Input Method Options dialog box.
An input method may not support all style preferences. Refer to the input
method's documentation to determine the supported input styles.
Commonly, the system's default input method server is used.
Instead of using the default, the user's own input method server can be
used if it is installed on the system. To use such an input method server,
in the Input Method Options dialog box:
· Click on the Other radio button under Input Method
· Click on the text field
· Type the name of the input method server
· Click on the OK or Apply button
The name of the input method is governed by the input method server. The
name should be the same as the setting of the XMODIFIERS environment
variable. See the input method's documentation for details.
The Style Preferences are described in the following sections.
Over the Spot Style Preference
In over the spot pre-editing, the data is displayed in a pre-edit window
that is placed over the text insertion point.
Off the Spot Style Preference
In off the spot pre-editing, the pre-edit window is inside the application
window but not at the text insertion point. Often, this type of window is
placed at the bottom of the application window.
Root Window Style Preference
Root window pre-editing refers to input methods that use a pre-edit window
that is the child of the root window.
On the Spot Style Preference
For on the spot input methods, pre-editing data is displayed directly in
the application windows. Application data is moved to permit pre-edit data
to appear at the text insertion point.
