The Tru64 UNIX operating system provides the Japanese input server
dxjim as the standard Japanese input system for the window environment.
Tru64 UNIX
also supports the optional Japanese input systems VJE-Gamma
and WX3.
3.1 dxjim
The dxjim Japanese input server meets the internationalized input method XIM standard, which was adopted in X11R6. The input server also supports the R6 XIM protocol, which became the de facto standard in X11R6, as well as the earlier DECXim protocol.
Because it is based on OSF/Motif Version 1.2.5, the Tru64 UNIX
Japanese window environment allows you to input Japanese characters with either
the
XmText
or the
DXmCSText
widget.
To enable Japanese input, you must start dxjim on the display server
that will display the applications.
3.1.1 Starting dxjim
To use the session manager and applications for Japanese input, the Japanese input server must be running.
A single Japanese input server supports the Japanese input features for multiple applications on the same display. Also, network applications from a remote node running on the local display can receive Japanese input through the local Japanese input server.
To start dxjim, select Japanese on the CDE login screen and log in to the system. Alternatively, you can start dxjim explicitly using the following command:
% /usr/bin/X11/dxjim &
3.1.2 Japanese Input with dxjim
Start dxjim.
Start the application on the display where dxjim is running.
Focus on the character input field (that is, bring the input field to the foreground). The dxjim title changes to represent the input style.
Input Japanese characters.
The dxjim input server supports three input styles: on-the-spot, over-the-spot (default), and root-window.
For more information on using dxjim, see
Chapter 7.
3.2 VJE-Gamma
VJE-Gamma for Tru64 UNIX implements the basic functionality of PC Front End Processor (FEP) VJE-Gamma as the X Window System input server on Tru64 UNIX. VJE-Gamma is an input method that offers Japanese input conversion service for applications running on Tru64 UNIX.
The VJE-Gamma kit is supplied
on a separate CD-ROM.
For ordering information, refer to the Worldwide Language
Support web page at
http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/unix/i18n.htm.
For information on
installing and using the kit, refer to the
VJE-Gamma User's Guide.
3.3 WX3
WX3 for Tru64 UNIX implements the basic functionality of PC FEP WX3 as the X Window System input server on Tru64 UNIX.
To use WX3 for Tru64 UNIX, you must have a WX3 license in addition to the operating system license.
The WX3 kit is supplied on a separate CD-ROM. For ordering information, refer to the Worldwide Language Support web page at http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/unix/i18n.htm. For information on installing and using the kit, refer to the WX3 User's Guide.
