  This directory contains tools used by the FTP Archive for tasks such as
  archiving newsgroups, generating index files, etc.
  
  Index Generation Scripts:
    This site uses the same index generation script as gatekeeper.dec.com. These
    scripts used to be available at gatekeeper.dec.com:pub/DEC/gwtools/ (and
    later moved to ftp.digital.com:pub/DEC/gwtools/ until the server was
    shutdown at the start of 2008). They may now be found in this sites mirror
    of ftp.digital.com as well as index.tar.gz in this directory.
    
    index.tar.gz contains a copy of mkindex and mkindicies taken from
    ftp.digital.com in late 2007. This mkindex is the same script used by this
    FTP archive to generate its index files.
    
    mkindex was last updated in 08apr92 by Paul Vixie and is the script that
    generates the index files.

    mkindicies was last updated in 17jan93 by Paul Vixie and is the policy
    wrapper script used by gatekeeper.dec.com.
    
  Usenet archiving scripts
    This site uses rkive-3.1 to archive usenet newsgroups. A full mirror of the
    rkive distribution is available in ./rkive/ along with its mailing list
    archives, dependencies, etc.
    
    Also available is the kiboze.pl script which does a similar job to rkive but
    not as well. This script was used briefly but has been replaced by rkive.
    kiboze.pl may be found in ./kiboze/ along with all its dependencies.
