rpm-3.0.3: description + notes

rpm is a powerful package manager, which can be used to build, install, query, verify, update, and uninstall individual software packages. A package consists of an archive of files, and package information, including name, version, and description.

Note that rpm and inst do not currently understand each other's database formats, and will not recognize each other's installed packages for prerequisites. In general gendist should be used to package IRIX binaries. This port of rpm is intended mostly for unpacking source rpms on IRIX systems.

See the RPM home page for more documentation.
