PDF File Update
To enhance text printing to PostScript devices for DOS users of NetWare, we offer two new PDF files:
APLASER2.PDF
PSTSCRPT.PDF
APLASER2.PDF is a replacement for APPLASER.PDF, and is for printing to the Apple LaserWriter family. PSTSCRPT.PDF is for printing to all other PostScript printers, including LaserWriter compatibles.
The files offer new printing modes for devices Apple LaserWriter and PostScript printer, respectively. They are installed using Printdef; delete the existing LaserWriter device, if present, then import the two new PDF files.
For printing of text files, they offer "PostText" printing modes; these do not depend on Diablo 630 emulation, which is not available on all PostScript printers, and has the tendency to place some or all of the top and bottom lines on a page off the printable area of the page. These files use true PostScript to print text on a page. Due to length limitations in the print header, not all modes recognize form feeds (^L). The two that do are:
PostText Courier with Form Feeds
PostText Helvetica (with FF's)
These modes recognize form feeds, if they are at the beginning of a line, and skip to the next page. Other modes will treat a form feed as a space character. Diablo 630 modes are still offered with device LaserWriter, and these support form feeds fully.
You will notice that PostScript printer and Apple LaserWriter offer many of the same modes. The differences between the two devices are that PostScript printer does not offer any Diablo 630 modes, and that it's Post-Text modes leave a wider margin, thus not depending on the printer having the same printable page area as the LaserWriter.
These new PDF files are compatible with all Netware printing, including PSERVER and NetWare for Macintosh Print Services(NLM's and VAP's).
