ConsoleOne 1.3.3
Download Information Page
ConsoleOne is a Java utility that lets you manage NDS® objects, schema,
partitions, replicas, and NetWare® server resources. Additional capabilities are added to
ConsoleOne if you install other Novell® products. For example, if you install Novell
eDirectory, LDAP management capabilities are added.
Other Novell products include snap-ins you can use to administer those products. These
snap-ins are available from the Novell Download Site.
The following features have been added since the ConsoleOne 1.2d release:
- Partition Continuity checking
- Accessibility features intended to accommodate persons with disabilities
You might want to print these instructions before proceeding.

Starting ConsoleOne
Windows
The steps to start ConsoleOne on Windows depend on where ConsoleOne is installed.
Installation Location |
Steps |
NetWare volume |

Local hard disk |
On the Windows desktop, double-click the ConsoleOne icon. |

GUI Is Up |
Steps |
Yes |
Switch to the GUI. Click Novell > ConsoleOne. |

At the console prompt, enter C1START. |
Solaris or Linux
You can run ConsoleOne locally or from another computer through an X terminal (remote)
session, if that computer has an X windowing subsystem. Either way, enter the following
command at the system prompt:
/usr/ConsoleOne/bin/ConsoleOne
Known Issues
- If you try to log in to an NDS tree in ConsoleOne but the tree doesn't seem to be
available, try logging in using the IP address of a server in that tree.
- ConsoleOne can be sluggish under tight memory conditions. If performance seems to be
slowing down, restart ConsoleOne. The biggest performance booster is adding RAM.
- Under Russian Windows NT, if all text in ConsoleOne appears as box characters, you are
missing the Tahoma font. Copy the TAHOMA.TTF and TAHOMABD.TTF files from the
\WINDOWS\FONTS folder of another Russian Windows system (such as Windows 98) to your
\WINNT\FONTS folder.
- You might have problems removing individual values from the Server Holds property of an
object (on the generic Other property page). You can, however, remove the entire property
and add it back with any values you need.
- If you start ConsoleOne on a multiprocessor computer in debug mode (by adding the -debug
and -windowout parameters to the command line), and ConsoleOne freezes during startup,
remove the SHELLPREFS.SER and SNAPINPREFS.SER files from the drive where ConsoleOne is
installed and try starting ConsoleOne again.
- When adding or deleting replicas using ConsoleOne, the dialog box may not disappear. To
close the dialog box, click Cancel. The operation will be completed in the background.
This bug is attributed to the NetWare Server JVM 1.17b, but the problem is fixed in JVM
1.22.
- This release of ConsoleOne does not support the Hong Kong Supplementary
Character Set (HKSCS). We are currently working on a patch to allow HKSCS support in
future releases of ConsoleOne.
- See Additional Information for other known issues.
