ConsoleOne 1.2d Support Pack 1 Download Information (Windows/NetWare)
Overview
ConsoleOne is a Java utility that lets you manage NDS objects, schema, partitions, replicas, and NetWare server resources. Additional capabilities are added to ConsoleOne if you install other Novell products. For example, if you install NDS eDirectory, LDAP management capabilities are added.
Hint: You should install ConsoleOne to an NDS server if you plan to use other Novell products that add capabilities to ConsoleOne.
ConsoleOne 1.2d replaces all previous versions and adds the following new capabilities:
- Manage NDS partitions and replicas
- Configure role-based administration
- Generate NDS object reports
- Salvage and purge deleted files on NetWare volumes
- Create rights assignments and volume space restrictions for new users through a template
- Extend objects with auxiliary classes
- Modify properties of multiple files, folders, and volumes simultaneously
- Manage resources and assignments across NDS trees through DNS federation
- Launch NetWare Management Portal from NetWare Server objects in your NDS tree
- Run ConsoleOne on Linux and UNIX in addition to Windows and NetWare (this download package is for Windows/NetWare only)
You might want to print these instructions before proceeding.

Installation
- If a previous version of ConsoleOne is running on the computer where you will install ConsoleOne, exit that version of ConsoleOne.
- If you will install ConsoleOne on a NetWare server, unload all Java processes and JAVA.NLM on that server.
- To see the active Java processes, enter JAVA -SHOWALL at the console prompt.
- To unload all Java processes, enter JAVA -KILLALL at the console prompt.
- To unload JAVA.NLM, enter JAVA -EXIT at the console prompt.
- Download the ConsoleOne file(s) to a temporary location. If you download partial files, make sure to download EXTRACT.BAT as well.
- Double-click the C1_FULL.EXE or EXTRACT.BAT file that you just downloaded.
- In the extraction dialog box, choose a temporary, empty folder to extract the ConsoleOne files to, and then click Unzip. If you downloaded partial files, the extraction dialog box will reappear for each partial file that you need to extract. Make sure you extract to the same location each time.
- Double-click the SETUP.EXE file that you just extracted and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. When you are prompted to choose the location to install to, choose either a drive mapped to a server volume (recommended), or choose a local workstation drive.

Known Issues
- If you try to log in to an NDS tree in ConsoleOne but the tree doesn't seem to be available, try logging in using the IP address of a server in that tree.
- ConsoleOne can be sluggish under tight memory conditions. If performance seems to be slowing down, restart ConsoleOne. The biggest performance booster is adding RAM.
- Under Russian Windows NT, if all text in ConsoleOne appears as box characters, you are missing the Tahoma font. Copy the TAHOMA.TTF and TAHOMABD.TTF files from the \Windows\Fonts folder of another Russian Windows system (such as Windows 98) to your \Winnt\Fonts folder.
- If you create a User object in an Organization container, and the Organization name is the same as the NDS tree name, an error occurs when you try to assign an NDS password to the user. The workaround is to either rename the container or use NetWare Administrator to assign the NDS password.
- You might have problems removing individual values from the Server Holds property of an object (on the generic Other property page). You can, however, remove the entire property and add it back with any values you need.
- If you start ConsoleOne on a multiprocessor computer in debug mode (by adding the -debug and -windowout parameters to the command line) and ConsoleOne freezes during startup, remove the ShellPrefs.ser and SnapinPrefs.ser files from the drive where ConsoleOne is installed and try starting ConsoleOne again.
- When running ConsoleOne on NetWare, if you try to authenticate to an NDS tree that the NetWare server isn't in, the server might abend. This is due to a problem in CLIB.NLM and will be fixed in a later NetWare release. In this case, run ConsoleOne on a different platform.
- When adding or deleting replicas using ConsoleOne, the dialog box may not disappear. To close the dialog box, click Cancel. The operation will be completed in the background. This bug is attributed to the NetWare Server JVM 1.17b, but the problem is fixed in JVM 1.22.
- See the additional information below for other known issues.
