You may also receive the following error message when you attempt to start Microsoft Outlook Express: Unable to start the program. One of the required components may be busy or missing. Please check your installation and try again. CAUSE ===== This behavior can occur if an earlier version of Internet Explorer 4.0 is installed over Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1. NOTE: This behavior also occurs even if you successfully remove Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 before you reinstall the earlier version. RESOLUTION ========== To resolve this issue, reinstall both Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 and Outlook Express. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Start Internet Explorer. If you are prompted to connect to MSN, do so. 2. On the Help menu, click Product Updates. 3. When you are prompted to upgrade to Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1, click No. 4. Click to select the Outlook Express Update check box. When you are prompted to upgrade to Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1, click OK, and then click Next. 5. Select a download site, and then click Start Download. NOTE: The download takes approximately 1.5 hours using a 28,800 bits per second (bps) modem. 6. When the download and Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 upgrade installation is finished, restart the computer. 7. Click Start, and then click Run. 8. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK: http://setup.msn.com/membersonly/config/config.asp If you are prompted to connect to MSN, do so. 9. Scroll down the page until you see the following information: For Outlook Express Mail, what are my Outgoing (SMTP) and Incoming (POP3) Mail settings? Click here to have Outlook Express Mail configured for you or read the instructions below if you want to configure it on your own. 10. Click the Here link.
