DOCUMENT:Q139139 08-OCT-1997 [msnetwork] TITLE :Cannot Send E-mail to Address Containing Exclamation Point PRODUCT :The Microsoft Network PROD/VER:1.00 1.2 1.3 2.00 OPER/SYS:WINDOWS KEYWORDS:msnmail ====================================================================== --------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - The Microsoft Network versions 1.0, 1.05, 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 2.5 --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY ======= You cannot send e-mail messages to addresses that include an exclamation point (!). For example, you cannot send an e-mail message to the following address: tac!jms!smith@txttac.attmail.com MORE INFORMATION ================ If you send e-mail to an address with an exclamation point, you receive a non-delivery message from the System Administrator stating "Mailbox not available." The Microsoft Network does not allow an exclamation point as part of an e-mail address. An exclamation point indicates path information within the recipient's internal e-mail system and is not part of Internet e-mail syntax. When someone sends you an e-mail message, the message header contains that person's valid e-mail address.
