Using DLC with Windows for Workgroups (98984)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2

This article was previously published under Q98984

SUMMARY

Before you can use the DLC protocol included with the Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2 connectivity disk for Windows for Workgroups, you must do the following:

  1. Install the DLC protocol.
  2. In the SYSTEM.INI [NETWORK] section, add this line:

    Exclude=<Lanbase number>

  3. In the SYSTEM.INI [386Enh] section, add this line:

    V86ModeLanas=<Lanabase number>

  4. Save the SYSTEM.INI file and reboot.

MORE INFORMATION

The V86ModeLanas= entry identifies LANA 0 as a real mode protocol stack as used by DLC.

The Exclude= entry informs the redirector and server not to use this LANA number.

DLC doesn't support NCBs, but it uses Int 5C. The above two entries are used to prevent WfW from trying to use the DLC as a NetBIOS stack, which would generate errors.

Note: This information also applies to the Novell stack under WfW.
