How to Use the AT Utility with an External Command (98634)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2

This article was previously published under Q98634

SUMMARY

The AT utility included with Microsoft LAN Manager version 2.2 schedules commands and programs to run on a server at a specified time and date. Because AT starts as a detached process, the background process it uses to schedule commands has its own PATH environment variable. This variable is initially empty, so commands can fail if they include filenames that require PATH variables. To avoid this problem, specify an absolute PATH in commands scheduled with AT.

For example,

   AT 15:20 xcopy c:\data d:\data

fails, but
   AT 15:20 c:\os2\xcopy c:\data d:\data

works.

The AT utility works with internal commands such as COPY, DIR, and so on. The specific behavior is observed only with external commands and programs. AT requires administrative privilege.
