Project: Delaying Resources Does Not Change Task Duration (95690)

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Project for Windows and Macintosh, the duration Project calculates for the task may not look correct. This may be the case when multiple resources are assigned to a task and a value is added to the Delay field for one of the resource assignments.

When resources are assigned to a task, Project calculates the duration based on the resource with the largest amount of work.

If you have a task that is 10 days in duration and you want 2 resources to work on it, one during the first 5 days and the other resource the last 5 days, Project calculates the duration as 5 days but the Gantt Chart shows the task spanning 10 days.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Add a task to the Gantt Chart portion of the Task Entry View and let it default to a 1 day duration.
  2. Format the Task Form for Resource Schedule.
  3. Add 2 resources to the Task Form. Assign 40 hours of work to both resources and a 5 day delay to the delay field of one the resources.
  4. Choose the OK button in the Task Form.
Project now calculates the duration as 5 days, but the Gantt Chart shows the duration as spanning 10 days.
