SYMPTOMS

When you assign a resource to a summary task and you change the working times, the work for that resource is calculated based on where you make the changes to the working times (if you change working times in the resource calendar the calculations will be different than if you change working times in the project base calendar).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. From the View menu, choose Task Entry.
  2. Enter four new tasks. Press ALT+SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW to demote tasks 2 and 4.
  3. Select task 1 and assign resource R1 to it. Select task 3 and assign resource R2 to it.
  4. Select task 1. From the Options menu, choose Resource Calendars. Edit the resource calendar for R1 (so that working hours are 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.) and choose the OK button.

The task form should show 4h of work for R1.
  5. From the Options menu, choose Base Calendars and create a new calendar called 4-hour. Edit the working time of the 4-hour calendar for 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., Monday-Friday, and choose the OK button. Choose the Close button.
  6. Select task 3. From the Options menu, choose Resource Calendars. Edit the resource calendar for R2 and set the Base field to the 4-hour calendar. Choose the OK button.
Although the work should be recalculated to 4 hours (4h), it stays at 8 hours (8h).
