The slide to which the action settings for a button are set does not open in PowerPoint 2004 (925438)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2004 for Mac

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You open a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2004 for Mac presentation in PowerPoint 2004. The presentation contains several buttons. The action settings for these buttons are set to open specific slides in the presentation during a slide show. You run the slide show. Then, you click one of these buttons. In this scenario, the slide to which the action settings are set does not open. Instead, the first slide of the presentation is opened.

If you view the action settings for the button, you notice that the Hyperlink to setting under Action on click is set to the first slide of the presentation.

If you reset the Hyperlink to setting to the correct slide and then save and close the presentation, you notice that the Hyperlink to setting was not saved when you reopen the presentation. The Hyperlink to setting is still set to the first slide of the presentation.

Note To view the action settings for a button, right-click the button, and then click Action Settings.

CAUSE

This problem occurs after you install the Microsoft Office 2004 11.2.5 update. This problem also occurs if you use the updated version of Microsoft Office 2004 to save the presentation. Then, you use Office 2004 11.2.4 or earlier versions to open the presentation. However, if you do not use save the presentation, the presentation will function as expected in Office 2004 11.2.4 or in earlier versions.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, remove the updated version of Office 2004. Then, reinstall the original version of Office 2004. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Go menu, click Applications.
  2. Drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder into the Trash.
  3. Insert the Microsoft Office 2004 installation CD into the CD or DVD drive.
  4. Drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder into the Applications folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft PowerPoint 2004 for Mac version 11.2.5.
