SYMPTOMS

The current release of Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator version 2.02 only allows for four connections for each session. However, you still can successfully add more than four connections for each session without receiving any error message on a Windows Server 2003-based computer. Additionally, the graphical user interface (GUI) of iSCSI Software Initiator only displays four connections even though there are actually more than four connections.

Note The 2.03 version of iSCSI Software Initiator will fix this problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Log on to the target by typing the following command in the Microsoft ISCSI Command Line Interface (CLI). Set the Maximum_Connections option to 5.

    iscsicli LoginTarget Target_Name Maximum_Connections

  2. Verify that the iSCSI session is successfully established in the GUI of iSCSI Software Initiator.
  3. Select the connected target in the iSCSI Software Initiator, and then click Details.
  4. On the Target Properties page, click Connections.
  5. On the Session Connections page, click Add to add an additional connection. Repeat this step four times to add four additional connections.
  6. Type iscsicli sessionlist. Only four connections are listed. MSiSCSI supports only four connections per session.

Note You can add more than four connections for each session without receiving an error message. The CLI should have generated an error that indicated that an invalid parameter was passed. This issue only occurs when the Maximum_Connections parameter has a value that is more than 4. If the value is less than or equal to 4, the issue does not occur.
