IIS 5.0 does not start automatically after the server is restarted (922729)

SYMPTOMS

After the server is restarted, the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 service does not start automatically. The following events are logged in the Application log:Event Type: Error

Description: The windows Management Instrumentation driver Extension service terminated with service-specific error 100.

CAUSE

An unlicensed version of the Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions service exists on the server.

RESOLUTION

Disable the unlicensed version of the Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions service. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
  2. Right-click the windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions service, and then click Properties.

    Important Two similar services are listed. The name of one service starts with an uppercase "W" and lists Manual in the Startup type column. The name of the other service starts with a lowercase "w" and lists Automatic in the Startup type column. Make sure that you right-click the service that starts with a lowercase "w" and that lists Automatic in the Startup type column.
  3. Under Startup type, click Disabled, and then click OK.
  4. Restart the computer.
