Mail stops flowing and many "AntigenInternet Exceeded MaxDisabledWaitTime" entries are logged in the ProgramLog.txt file in Advanced Spam Manager 9.0 (921133)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Advanced Spam Manager 9.0

SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Advanced Spam Manager 9.0 on a computer that is configured as a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) gateway, you may experience the following symptoms:
  • E-mail messages stop flowing in the organization.
  • The following entry is logged many times in the %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Antigen for SMTP\ProgramLog.txt file:

<date and time> (<code>), "ERROR: AntigenInternet Exceeded MaxDisabledWaitTime of 600000."

You experience this issue when the SpamCure scanning engine cannot be successfully updated.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, temporarily disable Microsoft Antigen 9.0 until the SpamCure engine can be successfully updated. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Stop the following services:
    • AntigenService
    • IIS Admin Service
    • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
  2. Change directory to the Antigen for SMTP folder. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. At the command prompt, type cd\program files\microsoft antigen for smtp, and then press ENTER.
  3. To disable Antigen 9.0, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

    antutil /disable

This command removes the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service dependency on the AntigenIMC service. Therefore, Antigen 9.0 is no longer integrated with the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service.
  4. Restart the services that you stopped in step 1.
To later re-enable Antigen 9.0, follow these steps:
  1. Stop the following services:
    • AntigenService
    • IIS Admin Service
    • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
  2. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
  3. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

    antutil /enable

This command integrates the AntigenIMC service together with the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service.
  4. Restart the services that you stopped in step 1.
