Error message when you try to merge two accounts or two contacts in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0: "There is a problem communicating with the Microsoft CRM server" (918460)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook, when used with:
    • Microsoft CRM 3.0
  • Microsoft CRM 3.0

The hotfix that is discussed in this article is not available for the Chinese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM or for the Japanese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

SYMPTOMS

When you try to merge two accounts or two contacts in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, you receive the following error message:
There is a problem communicating with the Microsoft CRM server. The server might be unavailable. Try again later. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator.
This problem occurs if one of the accounts or one of the contacts is the customer or the billing customer on a contract that has multiple line items.

You may receive a similar error message when you do the following actions:
  • You change the customer on a contract that has multiple line items.
  • You add a parent account to an account that is the customer on a contract that has multiple line items.
  • You add a parent account to a contact that is the customer on a contract that has multiple line items .

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Business Solutions Technical Support to obtain the hotfix.
