Xbox 360: The Xbox 360 Media Center Extender cannot connect to the Windows XP Media Center Edition-based computer after you install the April 2006 Update Rollup for Windows XP Media Center 2005 (918358)

SYMPTOMS

After you install the April 2006 Update Rollup for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005, the Xbox 360 Media Center Extender cannot connect to the Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition-based computer.

Additionally, you may receive the following error message on the Xbox 360:
Cannot Find Media Center PC.
Alternatively, when you try to use features, you may receive the following error message:
Media Center Extender Error - An error occurred while using your Media Center Extender. To continue, reset you device. For more information about resetting your Extender refer to your hardware documentation.

CAUSE

Windows Media Center Extenders, such as the Xbox 360, use network ports to communicate over the network with computers that are running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. The Rollup Update for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 contains updates to Media Center programs that may have been previously configured as "approved" or "allowed" by a non-Microsoft firewall.

THINGS TO TRY

If you use a non-Microsoft firewall, you may have to manually update the firewall to "allow" or to "approve" the new versions of these programs to access the ports. If you do not perform these firewall updates, you may experience failures when you try to connect the Media Center Extender to the Media Center-based computer.
