Error message when you run a query in the Group Hub of the Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 Administration Console: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" (918321)

  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 Developer Edition
  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you run a query in the Group Hub of the Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 Administration Console, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if all the following conditions are true:
  • You have multiple BizTalk Server 2006 Message Box databases.
  • One of the BizTalk Server 2006 Message Box databases is hosted on a remote server.
  • One of the Microsoft SQL Server instances is not running.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, start the instance of SQL Server on the remote server.
