A client computer that you remove from Systems Management Server 2003 still appears in System Center Reporting Manager (SCRM) 2006 reports (918010)

  • Microsoft System Center Reporting Manager 2006 English (United States)

SYMPTOMS

You remove a client computer from Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003. After you do this, the client computer still appears in the Microsoft System Center Reporting Manager (SCRM) 2006 reports that you run.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the SMS 2003 Delete Aged System Center Reporting Data site maintenance task is configured to remove data before the SCRM SMS delta update data transformation service (DTS) job runs.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, configure the Delete data older than option in the Delete Aged System Center Reporting Data site maintenance task. Configure this option with a value that is larger than the number of days between the scheduled SCRM SMS delta update DTS jobs. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start SCRM 2006.
  2. Expand Data Sources, expand the Systems Management Server data source, and then click DTS Jobs.
  3. In the right pane, right-click SC_SMS_Delta-Dts1_from DataSourceName, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Schedule tab, and then note the schedule for the DTS job.
  5. Click Cancel.
  6. On the computer that is running SMS 2003, start the SMS Administrator console.
  7. Expand the site database object, expand the site, expand Site Settings, expand Site Maintenance, and then click Tasks.
  8. In the right pane, right-click Delete Aged System Center Reporting Data, and then click Properties.
  9. In the Delete data older than box, enter a value that is larger than the number of days that you noted in step 4.
  10. Click OK.
Note We recommend that you also configure both of the following site maintenance tasks with a Delete data older than value that is larger than the number of days that you noted in step 4:
  • Delete Aged Inventory History
  • Delete Aged Status Messages
This procedure helps make sure that the inventory history data and the status message data are moved to the SCRM database before this data is removed from the SMS database.

MORE INFORMATION

When an item is deleted from one of the following database tables, that item is added to the corresponding DWTbl_tablename_Del tables:
  • Collection Members
  • PatchStatusSummary
  • SoftwareInventory
  • System_Disc
  • User_Disc
  • User_Group_Disc
When the SCRM SMS delta update DTS job runs, it transfers the data from the DWTbl_tablename_Del tables to the SCRM database. This action enables SCRM to track SMS deletion operations. When the Delete Aged System Center Reporting Data site maintenance task runs, it removes the data that is older than the Delete data older than value from the DWTbl_tablename_Del tables.

Therefore, if the Delete Aged System Center Reporting Data site maintenance task removes data from the DWTbl_tablename_Del tables before the SCRM SMS delta update job transfers this data to the SCRM database, SCRM cannot track the deletion information.
