You cannot send a map by using e-mail in MapPoint or in Streets & Trips (916834)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to send a map in Microsoft MapPoint or in Microsoft Streets & Trips by using e-mail, you experience one of the following symptoms:
  • You receive one of the following error messages:
    Unable to create a new mail message due to an unexpected problem.
    Unable to create a new mail message due to an unexpected error.
  • Microsoft Outlook opens to a blank page and does not insert the map as a picture or as an attachment.
Note This behavior occurs when you try to send a map by selecting one of the following options:
  • Send map via e-mail as a picture
  • Mail Recipient (as Picture)
  • Mail Recipient (as Attachment)

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because of a conflict with the way that Outlook is configured.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. In Outlook, in the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Mail Format tab.
  3. Select one of the following options, and then try to send the map by using e-mail. If one of these options fails, try the next option.

    Note All these options have resolved the issue in different cases.
    • In the Message Format section, set the option to HTML.
    • In the Message Format section, set the option to Microsoft Outlook Rich Text.
    • Click to clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.
    • If the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box is already cleared, click to select the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.
  4. Click OK to save the change.
  5. Close all the windows that are open. This includes Outlook. Then, try to send a map by using e-mail.
