INTRODUCTIONThis article discusses that the Groove
Calendar tool automatically updates appointment times when you change time zones.MORE INFORMATIONThe Groove Calendar tool automatically updates appointment
times when you change time zones and marks changed appointments to indicate
that they were created in another time zone. When you change the time
zone on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows, Windows broadcasts the WM_TIMECHANGE message to running applications.
Groove recognizes this change immediately. When the time zone setting changes, the Groove
Calendar tool adjusts the start and end times of the Calendar entries to match the current local time zone. Groove also displays the indicator icon next to these entries to indicate that the entries were created in a different time zone than the time zone that the system
currently uses. For example, if your
time zone is set to Eastern Time, and you create a Calendar entry that is named "Product
Status Meeting" that runs from 9:00 to 10:00 Eastern Time, the meeting is displayed in the
Month view of the Calendar as follows: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Product Status Meeting If you
then change your time zone to Central Time, the Calendar tool
changes the display. The meeting now has a globe and clock icon next to it and appears as follows: 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM Product
Status Meeting When you move the pointer over the globe and clock icon, a ToolTip appears that displays the original appointment times and the original time zone.
This behavior may cause confusion on computers that are running Microsoft Windows 95, Windows
98, or Windows Millennium Edition. These operating systems do not immediately
update the system time to reflect the correct local time when you change the
time zone setting. Instead, these versions of Windows require that you restart your computer for the change to take effect, or
that you manually change the time zone setting to the new time zone. Until you restart your computer or you change the time manually, the Windows
clock and other system time displays will continue to reflect the original time
setting that will not match the correct times in Groove.
