Introduction

This article discusses the limitations of using Groove peer to peer technology without a connection to the Internet.

MORE INFORMATION

You can use some features of Groove Workspace 2.5 and of Groove Virtual Office without a connection to the Internet. For example, data is still transferred between Groove users as long as the communicating computers are on the same subnet and online in Groove at the same time.

To exchange data with a computer that is on a different subnet or with a computer that is not running Groove at the same time, Groove needs a network connection to one of the following:
  • a private Enterprise Relay Server
  • an Internet connection to Groove Relay Services
Without a Groove Relay Server, Groove cannot establish awareness of a computer that is not on the same subnet. Broadcast messages are used to establish computer awareness on a subnet.
