The Availability Reporting Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 does not generate reports after you implement the Management Pack Guide section "How to Add Computer Groups to a Rule Group" (914989)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2005

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Availability Reporting Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 does not generate reports after you implement the "How to Add Computer Groups to a Rule Group" section in the Availability Reporting Management Pack Guide.

CAUSE

The Availability Reporting Management Pack requires that computer groups are associated to the top level rule group. The Management Pack Guide, "Microsoft Availability Reporting Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager 2005," incorrectly refers to subordinate rule groups on pages 6 and 7.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, first remove the associations you created to the subordinate rule groups. Then, associate the computer groups to the top level rule group. Remove the associations to the following subordinate rule groups.

Note The Management Pack Installer assigns the Timezone Information computer group to the Application Events rule group. The Timezone Information computer group must remain associated to the Application Events rule group.
  • Application Events
  • Directory Services
  • Installer Events
  • Microsoft Exchange Events
  • Microsoft SQL Server Events
  • System Events
After you remove all the associations that are created when you implement the "How to Add Computer Groups to a Rule Group" section, associate the computer groups to the top level rule group. This rule group has the rule group GUID {F9B1F301-FF22-434B-A545-9E43C96DB1B3}. You can examine the rule group properties and confirm the rule group GUID.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft is knows about this issue and will update the Management Pack Guide as soon as possible.
