Error message when you install Groove Workspace on a computer that has Windows XP Service Pack 1 applied (914756)

SYMPTOMS

You apply Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) and the hotfix that is provided in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

328310 MS02-071: Flaw in Windows WM_TIMER message handling can enable privilege elevation

When you then install Groove Workspace 2.5 or an earlier version of Workspace, you may receive the following error message at the end of the installation process:
TRd ww: C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\Engine\6\INTEL3~1\IKernel.exe: IKernel.exe - Application Error The instruction at 0x771c741a referenced memory at 0x00164508. The memory could not be read.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, we recommend that you apply Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). To download this service pack, visit the following Microsoft Web site:After you install this service pack and restart the computer, run the Groove Workspace installation again.
