The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service stops responding after you enable Sybari Antigen for Microsoft Exchange in Exchange Server 2003 (914394)

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service stops unexpectedly (crashes) 24 to 36 hours after you enable Sybari Antigen for Microsoft Exchange. Additionally, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service may stop unexpectedly (crash) when you perform a backup of Exchange Server 2003.

These symptoms may occur when you use any antivirus program that uses the Microsoft Virus Scanning Application Programming Interface (VSAPI) interface.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

You must install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) before you install the hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply the hotfix. However, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service and all dependent services will be restarted.

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.
