SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install various Windows updates on a Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer,
you receive an error message that is similar to the following: Setup cannot copy the file update_SP2QFE.inf
When you try to rename the CatRoot2 folder, you receive an error message that is similar to the following: The system cannot
find the path specified.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, follow these steps: - Change the folder options on the computer to show hidden files and folders. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type explorer, and then click OK.
- On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
- Click the View tab, and then click Show hidden files and folders in the Advanced settings list.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
- Locate, and then open the following hidden folder:Note The %windir% folder is the folder where you installed Microsoft Windows.
- Delete the folder of the update that you are trying to install, and then reinstall the update.
- Change the folder options on the computer not to show hidden files and folders. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type explorer, and then click OK.
- On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
- Click the View tab, and then click Do not show hidden files and folders in the Advanced settings list.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
