SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Microsoft MapPoint on a Microsoft Windows-based computer or on a Microsoft Windows Terminal Server client computer, you may receive the following error message:
A removable device or network share cannot be found. The feature you are trying to use is on a CD Rom drive. Please re connect the device or try reinstalling the application.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the InstallTo values that are created in the Windows Registry for MapPoint are incorrect.

RESOLUTION

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Double-click each one of the following registry entries, and then change the drive letter to the installation drive of MapPoint.
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MapPoint\11.0\USA\InstallTo
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MapPoint\11.0\USA\ConstructionFilePath
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MapPoint\11.0\USA\InstallTo
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MapPoint\11.0\USA\constructionFilePath
    For example, the value in these registry entries may be C:\Program Files\MapPoint. Change the value to the path where MapPoint is installed.
