Error message when you install Small Business Accounting: "Small Business Accounting requires File and Printer Sharing to be enabled" (911761)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting, you may receive the following message:
Small Business Accounting requires File and Printer Sharing to be enabled.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because one or more of the following conditions are true:
  • File and Printer Sharing is not enabled.
  • The Server service is not enabled.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one or more of the following resolutions.

Note If File and Printer Sharing is not enabled, use resolution 1 or resolution 2 according to the status of Windows Firewall. If the Server service is not enabled, use resolution 3.

Resolution 1: Enable File and Printer Sharing if Windows Firewall is enabled

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Windows Firewall.
  3. In the Windows Firewall dialog box, click the Exceptions tab.
  4. Under Programs and Services, click to select the File and Printer Sharing check box, and then click OK.

Resolution 2: Install File and Printer Sharing if Windows Firewall is not enabled

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Network Connections.
  3. Right-click Local Area Network, and then click Properties.
  4. Click to select the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks check box.
  5. Click Install, select Service, and then click Add.
  6. Select File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, and then click OK.

Resolution 3: Enable the Server service

  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
  2. In the Services window, right-click Server, and then click Properties.
  3. In the Server Properties dialog box, click the General tab.
  4. In the Startup Type list, select Automatic.
  5. Click Start.
Note The Server service supports file sharing, printer sharing, and named pipes over a network for the computer on which the Server service is enabled. If the Server service is stopped, file sharing, printer sharing, and named pipes are unavailable. If the Server service is not enabled, services that depend directly on this service cannot start.
