MORE INFORMATION

By default, you do not have a pass code associated with your Xbox Live account. You can set a pass code for your Xbox Live account so that other users cannot use your gamertag.

Passcode changes that are made by using account management may not "stick" until you sign-out of Xbox Live and then sign back in.

Set an Xbox Live pass code

  1. In the Xbox Live section of the Xbox Dashboard, select Sign In.
  2. Select the Xbox Live-enabled account to which you want to apply the pass code.
  3. Sign in to Xbox Live.
  4. After you sign in, select your gamer card.
  5. Select Account Management. You receive the following message: This will end your current session.
  6. Select Yes.
  7. From the Account Management menu, select Xbox Live Pass Code.
  8. Use a combination of the Y button, the X button, the triggers, the bumpers, and the directional pad (D-pad) to create a pass code.
  9. When you are prompted to confirm the pass code, enter the pass code again.
  10. If you successfully set a pass code, you will be informed that your pass code has been updated. Select OK.

Remove an Xbox Live pass code

Note When you delete an offline profile, you will lose any gamerscore that is associated with the profile. Additionally, you will lose achievements and statistics that are associated with the profile.

To remove an Xbox Live pass code, you must perform an account recovery:
  1. Delete the profile for which you forgot the pass code. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In the Xbox Dashboard, click System.
    2. Select Memory.
    3. Select the memory device where your profile is stored.
    4. Select Gamer Profiles.
    5. Select the profile that you want to delete.
    6. Select Delete.
  2. Move to the Xbox Live section in the Xbox Dashboard, and then select Recover Gamertag from Xbox Live. You receive the following message: To join Xbox Live, you must exit your current session.
  3. Select Yes.
  4. Enter the gamertag for which you want to remove the pass code, and then select Done.
  5. Select Next.
  6. In the E-mail Address section, enter the Windows Live ID account information (the e-mail address and password that you use to sign in to the Windows Live ID) that is associated with your gamertag, and then select Done.
  7. Enter the password for the Windows Live ID account, and then select Done.
  8. Select Sign In.
  9. If you want to set the pass code again, follow the steps in the "Set an Xbox Live pass code" section.
