The information in this article applies to:

  • Xbox Video Game System
  • Microsoft Xbox 360

SYMPTOMS

You may experience poor wireless performance when you connect to a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center-based computer.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you use wireless networking equipment that is not "Designed for Media Center Edition" (DfMCE) logo certified.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. To guarantee compatibility with current gear and to provide additional uninterrupted bandwidth for the Xbox 360, replace an older 802.11g-only router with a newer dual-band 802.11g and 802.11a router that is DfMCE certified.
The Xbox 360 can connect to an 802.11g or an 802.11a router with an optional wireless adaptor that is available from www.xbox.com. You can achieve optimal performance when the Xbox 360 connects by using 802.11a. Other wireless devices, such as portable computers or desktop computers, connect by using 802.11g.
