Xbox 360: The Media Center Extender Setup stops during the Find Music stage (911114)

SYMPTOMS

The Media Center Extender Setup stops during the Find Music stage. The setup is not completed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when Media Center Extender Setup tries to add music that is located on a network share that is unavailable or if access to the share is denied.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Stop the setup process. To do this, select the Find music later check box, and then select Next.
  2. Add music by using an Xbox 360 remote or an Xbox 360 Controller. For instructions about how to add music, see the "More Information" section.

MORE INFORMATION

To add music on the Xbox 360 console by using the Xbox 360 Universal Remote or by using the Xbox 360 Media Remote, follow these steps:
  1. Press the Start button on the remote, and then select My Music, My Pictures, or My Videos.
  2. Press the INFO button.
  3. Select Add Music, Add Pictures, or Add Video, and then press the OK button.
  4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to add more content.
To add music on the Xbox 360 console by using the Xbox 360 Controller, follow these steps:
  1. Verify that the Windows Media Center-based computer is turned on.
  2. Press the START button on the controller, and then select My Music, My Pictures, or My Videos.
  3. Press the X button.
  4. Select Add Music, Add Pictures, or Add Video, and then press the A button.
  5. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to add more content.
Note After you add more media locations, the names or the titles of the media may not display on the console for several minutes. However, you can continue to use Windows Media Center with the Xbox 360 console during this time.
