SYMPTOMS

When you try to install an agent or update agent settings by using the Update Agent Settings command on a Microsoft Operations Manager 2005-based computer, the following error message is logged:
Description: The MOM Server failed to update agent settings on managed computer Computer Name. So the secure port, mutual authentication, action account settings, and software updates might not be applied correctly.

Error Code: -2147023257
Error Description: Invalid command line argument. Consult the Windows Installer SDK for detailed command line help.

This problem only occurs when the password of the agent action account contains a space or a semicolon.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the SetActionAccount.exe utility will not accept a space or semicolon in a password when you try to change passwords on an agent action account.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, remove any spaces or semicolons in the password of the agent action account.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
