Xbox 360: You receive the "Slow Wired Network" error message (909164)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect an Xbox 360 console to a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center-based computer by using a wired network, you receive the following error message:
Slow Wired Network

Your console is connected to a wired network that does not support 100 Mbps Ethernet. You may experience performance problems while viewing TV or other video over the current network connection.

[A - Accept]
[B - Back]
[X - Cancel]

CAUSE

You may experience this behavior if the wired network does not support 100 megabits per second (Mbps) throughput.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Verify that the Ethernet cable supports up to 100 Mbps throughput.
  2. If you use a hub or a switch, verify that the device supports 100 Mbps throughput.

MORE INFORMATION

For optimal performance, streaming audio or streaming video over a network, such as from a Windows XP Media Center-based PC to an Xbox 360 console requires 100 Mbps throughput.
