SUMMARY

This article describes how to configure the privacy and friend settings on an Xbox 360 console.

MORE INFORMATION

The privacy and friend settings are located in the System section of the Xbox Dashboard under Family Settings. To make any changes to the Family Settings of a child's profile, you must first sign in to the child's profile. You will also have to know the Windows Live ID credentials (the e-mail address and password that you use to sign in to the Windows Live ID) for the parent's Windows Live ID account. The parent's Windows Live ID account determines the access to the Family Settings in the console.

To configure the privacy and friend settings, follow these steps:
  1. In the System section, select Family Settings, and then select Live Control. You are prompted to enter the password for Windows Live ID account that you used when you signed up for Xbox Live.
  2. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the appropriate password for the Windows Live ID account.
  3. Select Privacy and Friend Settings.
  4. On the Privacy and Friend Settings screen, you can select from the following options:
    • New Online Friends
If you select the New Online Friends option, you can restrict your child from adding friends or from accepting friend invitations.
    • Communications
If you select the Communications option, you can restrict access to voice, video, text, personal messages, video messages, game and chat invitations, and posting on Xbox.com for your child.
    • Online Presence
If you select the Online Presence option, you can restrict your child's presence information (what others can see about your child and what your child can see about others). You can also make your child appear offline.
    • Gamer Profile sharing/viewing
If you select the Gamer Profile sharing/viewing option, you can restrict with who can view your child's profile, and whether your child can view the profiles of others.
  5. Select from the following settings based on the option that you selected in the previous step:
    • New Online Friends: require approval, child may accept
    • Communications: everyone, friends only, blocked
    • Online Presence: everyone, friends only, blocked
    • Gamer Profile sharing/viewing: everyone, friends only, blocked
