A blank entry may be displayed in the Language box on the "Speech Recognition" tab of the Speech Control Panel item after you install a Speech Server 2004 R2 Language Pack (906373)

SYMPTOMS

After you install a Microsoft Speech Server (MSS) 2004 R2 Language Pack, a blank entry may be displayed in the Language box on the Speech Recognition tab of the Speech Control Panel item. When you click the blank entry in the Language box and then click OK, you may receive the following error message:

An exception occurred when trying to run "%WINDIR%\system32\shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL "%PROGRAMFILES%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech\sapi.cpl", Speech"

CAUSE

This problem occurs on computers that do not have a speech recognition (SR) engine for the MSS 2004 R2 Language Pack that you installed. The MSS 2004 R2 Language Pack Setup program does not install the SR engine. However, the MSS 2004 R2 Language Pack Setup program inserts registry keys for the SR engine. Therefore, this problem occurs.

RESOLUTION

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve this problem, delete the following registry keys from the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech\Recognizers\Tokens\MS-3084-70-TELE
