INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to enable the multiple scanning processes feature in Sybari Antigen.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, Antigen 7.5 and Antigen 8.0 support multiple scanning processes for Realtime scanning and for the SMTP scanner. If you are using Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5, Antigen supports multiple scanning processes only for Realtime scanning.

When you enable the multiple scanning processes feature for Realtime scanning, you may help prevent the following issues:
  • Issues in which Microsoft Outlook client computers stop responding
  • Message queuing issues
When you enable the multiple scanning processes feature for the SMTP scanner, you may help prevent messages from building up in the SMTP queue.

In Exchange Server 2003 and in Exchange 2000 Server, you can enable multiple Realtime scanning processes for each storage group. In Exchange Server 5.5, you can enable multiple Realtime scanning processes for the public store and for the private store.

When you start the Antigen service for the first time, the RealtimeProcessCount registry entry and the InternetProcessCount registry entry are created in the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sybari Software\Antigen for Exchange

Starting with Antigen build 1517, the default value of each of these registry entries is "2." By default, two processes are created for each storage group in Exchange Server 2003 and in Exchange 2000 Server. By default, two processes are created for each public store or private store in Exchange Server 5.5.

To enable the multiple scanning processes feature, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

  3. Double-click the RealtimeProcessCount registry entry, and then type the value that you want to use in the Value box.

For Realtime scanning, the maximum value that you can use is 4.
  4. Double-click the InternetProcessCount registry entry, and then type the value that you want to use in the Value box.

For the SMTP scanner, the maximum value that you can use is 10.
  5. Restart the Exchange Server services and the Antigen services. Alternatively, restart the Exchange server.
